I went in expecting another power-fantasy retread and got something with actual teeth. The early arc is slow, but everything it plants pays off by the second volume.

Strong writing, but the pacing sags badly in the middle stretch — a good hundred chapters could go without losing anything. Still comfortably worth the read.
