Chapter 154: The Second Awakening
It took him the better part of an hour to admit that the map was lying.
She traded the last of her name for passage and considered it a bargain. The system window blinked into existence, patient as a tax collector. Power without a ledger, his master used to say, is simply a landslide. Steel rang once, and the sound hung in the corridor far longer than it should have. Every instinct he had spent nine years sharpening told him to run.
He took the stairs two at a time and the consequences three at a time. The guildmaster set down the ledger with the care of a man defusing something.
Her mana core turned over once, slowly, like something waking in deep water. The city held its breath for the length of one long, ugly heartbeat. The old man laughed, and dust fell from the rafters in sympathy. He had died once already this year, and found the experience overrated. Ren counted three heartbeats before the sigil on the floor answered him.
He had prepared nine arguments and needed none of them. The lantern guttered, recovered, and cast his shadow in the wrong direction. He weighed the offer, then weighed the knife, and found the knife the more honest of the two. Her mana core turned over once, slowly, like something waking in deep water. Outside, the rain went on doing what rain does, indifferent to the war beneath it.
He took the stairs two at a time and the consequences three at a time. The girl in the mirror moved a fraction late, and smiled a fraction early. They buried the sword rather than break it, which told him everything. Nothing in the prophecy had mentioned paperwork.

Called it three chapters ago. The moment the seal was described as "unremarkable" I knew exactly where this was heading.
Genuinely one of the best-paced fights in the whole arc. The eight seconds line landed perfectly.
He dies at the end of the volume and comes back with the sword reforged. Screenshot this.
Reading this at 3am was a mistake and I would make it again. Thanks for the chapter!
