It took him the better part of an hour to admit that the map was lying.

The old man laughed, and dust fell from the rafters in sympathy. He weighed the offer, then weighed the knife, and found the knife the more honest of the two. He took the stairs two at a time and the consequences three at a time. She had never seen a spell apologise before.

The old man laughed, and dust fell from the rafters in sympathy. The system window blinked into existence, patient as a tax collector. He let the silence stretch until it became a question, then refused to answer it. Threads of light spooled out from her fingertips and knotted themselves into a door. The system window blinked into existence, patient as a tax collector.

Ren counted three heartbeats before the sigil on the floor answered him. The lantern guttered, recovered, and cast his shadow in the wrong direction.

Dawn arrived reluctantly, the way a witness arrives at a trial. The guildmaster set down the ledger with the care of a man defusing something. He took the stairs two at a time and the consequences three at a time.

Snow fell through the broken roof and did not melt where it landed on her hands. Somewhere below, a bell began to toll for a funeral that had not happened yet.

A hundred eyes opened in the dark, and not one of them blinked. She had never seen a spell apologise before.

“Everything the Fire Left”

Rank meant nothing here; the mountain had never learned to read a badge. Snow fell through the broken roof and did not melt where it landed on her hands. Nothing in the prophecy had mentioned paperwork. The old man laughed, and dust fell from the rafters in sympathy.

Ren counted three heartbeats before the sigil on the floor answered him. He had died once already this year, and found the experience overrated.

She had never seen a spell apologise before. The formation held for eight seconds longer than anyone had promised. The city held its breath for the length of one long, ugly heartbeat.

Steel rang once, and the sound hung in the corridor far longer than it should have. The manual had said this would hurt. The manual had been generous. A hundred eyes opened in the dark, and not one of them blinked. The formation held for eight seconds longer than anyone had promised. The city held its breath for the length of one long, ugly heartbeat.

Genuinely one of the best-paced fights in the whole arc. The eight seconds line landed perfectly.

He dies at the end of the volume and comes back with the sword reforged. Screenshot this.

Reading this at 3am was a mistake and I would make it again. Thanks for the chapter!
