It took him the better part of an hour to admit that the map was lying.

Her shadow reached the far wall a full second before she did. The guildmaster set down the ledger with the care of a man defusing something. Steel rang once, and the sound hung in the corridor far longer than it should have.

They buried the sword rather than break it, which told him everything. Her shadow reached the far wall a full second before she did. She had been told the tower ate its climbers; nobody had mentioned that it chewed.

They buried the sword rather than break it, which told him everything. The messenger was still running when the message stopped being true.

The blade was unremarkable in every way except the one that mattered. A hundred eyes opened in the dark, and not one of them blinked. Snow fell through the broken roof and did not melt where it landed on her hands.

A hundred eyes opened in the dark, and not one of them blinked. She had never seen a spell apologise before. They buried the sword rather than break it, which told him everything.

The beast did not roar. That was the part that frightened him. He had prepared nine arguments and needed none of them. The mana in the air thickened until it pressed against his skin like a held breath. The system window blinked into existence, patient as a tax collector.

Dawn arrived reluctantly, the way a witness arrives at a trial. Steel rang once, and the sound hung in the corridor far longer than it should have. The guildmaster set down the ledger with the care of a man defusing something. Magic, he had learned, was mostly bookkeeping performed at knifepoint.

Two of the seven seals were already broken when they reached the vault. A hundred eyes opened in the dark, and not one of them blinked. He took the stairs two at a time and the consequences three at a time.

The formation held for eight seconds longer than anyone had promised. The beast did not roar. That was the part that frightened him. He took the stairs two at a time and the consequences three at a time. He had prepared nine arguments and needed none of them. He weighed the offer, then weighed the knife, and found the knife the more honest of the two.

Somewhere below, a bell began to toll for a funeral that had not happened yet. They buried the sword rather than break it, which told him everything. The messenger was still running when the message stopped being true. Somewhere below, a bell began to toll for a funeral that had not happened yet.

Called it three chapters ago. The moment the seal was described as "unremarkable" I knew exactly where this was heading.

Genuinely one of the best-paced fights in the whole arc. The eight seconds line landed perfectly.

He dies at the end of the volume and comes back with the sword reforged. Screenshot this.

Reading this at 3am was a mistake and I would make it again. Thanks for the chapter!
