Chapter 551: No Crown Without Blood
It took him the better part of an hour to admit that the map was lying.
There were forty-one steps to the summit and he had already bled on eleven of them. A hundred eyes opened in the dark, and not one of them blinked.
Two of the seven seals were already broken when they reached the vault. Her shadow reached the far wall a full second before she did.
Rank meant nothing here; the mountain had never learned to read a badge. The messenger was still running when the message stopped being true. Power without a ledger, his master used to say, is simply a landslide. She traded the last of her name for passage and considered it a bargain. Somewhere below, a bell began to toll for a funeral that had not happened yet.
The old man laughed, and dust fell from the rafters in sympathy. Two of the seven seals were already broken when they reached the vault. Power without a ledger, his master used to say, is simply a landslide. She had never seen a spell apologise before. She had never seen a spell apologise before.
He had died once already this year, and found the experience overrated. The contract burned as it was signed, which the guild insisted was traditional. Her mana core turned over once, slowly, like something waking in deep water. The system window blinked into existence, patient as a tax collector. Steel rang once, and the sound hung in the corridor far longer than it should have. He took the stairs two at a time and the consequences three at a time. He wrote the formula in ash because ink would have remembered it. Outside, the rain went on doing what rain does, indifferent to the war beneath it.

Genuinely one of the best-paced fights in the whole arc. The eight seconds line landed perfectly.
He dies at the end of the volume and comes back with the sword reforged. Screenshot this.
Reading this at 3am was a mistake and I would make it again. Thanks for the chapter!
Small thing, but the shadow reaching the wall first is such a good way to telegraph what she is without spelling it out.
