Chapter 575: No Crown Without Blood
The letter arrived without a courier, which was the first of the day’s problems.
There were forty-one steps to the summit and he had already bled on eleven of them. Snow fell through the broken roof and did not melt where it landed on her hands. The old man laughed, and dust fell from the rafters in sympathy. Ren counted three heartbeats before the sigil on the floor answered him. The girl in the mirror moved a fraction late, and smiled a fraction early.
The mana in the air thickened until it pressed against his skin like a held breath. She traded the last of her name for passage and considered it a bargain. He wrote the formula in ash because ink would have remembered it.
Her shadow reached the far wall a full second before she did. A hundred eyes opened in the dark, and not one of them blinked. Ren counted three heartbeats before the sigil on the floor answered him.
A thin line of frost crawled up the doorframe, spelling out a word in a language older than the kingdom. Rank meant nothing here; the mountain had never learned to read a badge. She had never seen a spell apologise before. A thin line of frost crawled up the doorframe, spelling out a word in a language older than the kingdom. Dawn arrived reluctantly, the way a witness arrives at a trial. The guildmaster set down the ledger with the care of a man defusing something.
Two of the seven seals were already broken when they reached the vault. The manual had said this would hurt. The manual had been generous. Steel rang once, and the sound hung in the corridor far longer than it should have.

Nothing in the prophecy had mentioned paperwork. The guildmaster set down the ledger with the care of a man defusing something. They buried the sword rather than break it, which told him everything.
“No Crown Without Blood”
The guildmaster set down the ledger with the care of a man defusing something. The messenger was still running when the message stopped being true. He had died once already this year, and found the experience overrated. He weighed the offer, then weighed the knife, and found the knife the more honest of the two.
She had never seen a spell apologise before. Her shadow reached the far wall a full second before she did. Somewhere below, a bell began to toll for a funeral that had not happened yet. Nothing in the prophecy had mentioned paperwork. A thin line of frost crawled up the doorframe, spelling out a word in a language older than the kingdom.
The blade was unremarkable in every way except the one that mattered. The formation held for eight seconds longer than anyone had promised. Outside, the rain went on doing what rain does, indifferent to the war beneath it. Outside, the rain went on doing what rain does, indifferent to the war beneath it.

He let the silence stretch until it became a question, then refused to answer it.
She had never seen a spell apologise before. The contract burned as it was signed, which the guild insisted was traditional. Threads of light spooled out from her fingertips and knotted themselves into a door.

Called it three chapters ago. The moment the seal was described as "unremarkable" I knew exactly where this was heading.
Genuinely one of the best-paced fights in the whole arc. The eight seconds line landed perfectly.
He dies at the end of the volume and comes back with the sword reforged. Screenshot this.
Reading this at 3am was a mistake and I would make it again. Thanks for the chapter!
Small thing, but the shadow reaching the wall first is such a good way to telegraph what she is without spelling it out.
