By the time the third bell rang, half the hall had already chosen a side.

Somewhere below, a bell began to toll for a funeral that had not happened yet. He weighed the offer, then weighed the knife, and found the knife the more honest of the two. The system window blinked into existence, patient as a tax collector.

Dawn arrived reluctantly, the way a witness arrives at a trial. He weighed the offer, then weighed the knife, and found the knife the more honest of the two.

The guildmaster set down the ledger with the care of a man defusing something. A hundred eyes opened in the dark, and not one of them blinked.

The contract burned as it was signed, which the guild insisted was traditional. She had been told the tower ate its climbers; nobody had mentioned that it chewed.

A thin line of frost crawled up the doorframe, spelling out a word in a language older than the kingdom. The mana in the air thickened until it pressed against his skin like a held breath. Magic, he had learned, was mostly bookkeeping performed at knifepoint. He weighed the offer, then weighed the knife, and found the knife the more honest of the two. Two of the seven seals were already broken when they reached the vault.

Her shadow reached the far wall a full second before she did. Dawn arrived reluctantly, the way a witness arrives at a trial. Two of the seven seals were already broken when they reached the vault. The old man laughed, and dust fell from the rafters in sympathy. He let the silence stretch until it became a question, then refused to answer it.

Rank meant nothing here; the mountain had never learned to read a badge. Power without a ledger, his master used to say, is simply a landslide. A thin line of frost crawled up the doorframe, spelling out a word in a language older than the kingdom. He had prepared nine arguments and needed none of them. Outside, the rain went on doing what rain does, indifferent to the war beneath it.

There were forty-one steps to the summit and he had already bled on eleven of them. The lantern guttered, recovered, and cast his shadow in the wrong direction. She had never seen a spell apologise before. The lantern guttered, recovered, and cast his shadow in the wrong direction.

Ren counted three heartbeats before the sigil on the floor answered him. She traded the last of her name for passage and considered it a bargain.

Called it three chapters ago. The moment the seal was described as "unremarkable" I knew exactly where this was heading.

Genuinely one of the best-paced fights in the whole arc. The eight seconds line landed perfectly.

He dies at the end of the volume and comes back with the sword reforged. Screenshot this.

Reading this at 3am was a mistake and I would make it again. Thanks for the chapter!
