Chapter 534: A Debt Paid in Silence
The morning after the ridge, nothing in the camp sat quite where it had been left.
They buried the sword rather than break it, which told him everything. He took the stairs two at a time and the consequences three at a time.
Threads of light spooled out from her fingertips and knotted themselves into a door. The system window blinked into existence, patient as a tax collector. He had died once already this year, and found the experience overrated. The mana in the air thickened until it pressed against his skin like a held breath.
The mana in the air thickened until it pressed against his skin like a held breath. The manual had said this would hurt. The manual had been generous. The old man laughed, and dust fell from the rafters in sympathy.
The beast did not roar. That was the part that frightened him. They buried the sword rather than break it, which told him everything. The beast did not roar. That was the part that frightened him. A hundred eyes opened in the dark, and not one of them blinked. They buried the sword rather than break it, which told him everything.
She had never seen a spell apologise before. The lantern guttered, recovered, and cast his shadow in the wrong direction.
Magic, he had learned, was mostly bookkeeping performed at knifepoint. They buried the sword rather than break it, which told him everything. He took the stairs two at a time and the consequences three at a time. The blade was unremarkable in every way except the one that mattered.

Called it three chapters ago. The moment the seal was described as "unremarkable" I knew exactly where this was heading.
Genuinely one of the best-paced fights in the whole arc. The eight seconds line landed perfectly.
He dies at the end of the volume and comes back with the sword reforged. Screenshot this.
